<읽기> wonder 원더 원서 Day 32

Hearing Brightly

How can I describe what I heard when the doctor turned on my hearing aids? 
Or what I didn't hear? It's too hard to think of words. 
The ocean just wasn't living inside my head anymore. It was gone. 
I could hear sounds like shiny lights in my brain. It was like when you're in a room where one of the lightbulbs 
on the ceiling isn't working, but you don't realize how dark it is until someone changes the lightbulb and then you're like, 
whoa, it's so bright in here! I don't know if there's a word that means the same as
"bright" in terms of hearing, but I wish I knew one, because my ears were hearing brightly now.

 

  의사가 나의 보청기를 켰을 때 내가 들은걸 어떻게 설명해야 할까?

  아니면 내가 듣지 못했던 거? 이건 단어로 표현하기 어렵다.

  내 머릿속은 바닷속에 살지 않아도 됐다. 끝났다.

  나의 뇌는 빛나는 소리를 들을 수 있었다. 마치 방 하나 있는 전구가 밝혀진 느낌이다.

  천장을 밝히지 못하고 있었다. 누군가 전구를 바꾸자 원래 이렇게 어두웠었나 깨닫고 우와 이렇게 여기가 밝다니!

  청력에 대해서도 "밝다"라는 의미가 맞는지 모르겠지만, 모두에게 이해가 되었으면 한다.

  나의 귀가 지금은 밝아졌다.

 

"Sweetie, do you hear anything different?" said Mom.
"You don't have to shout, Mom." I nodded happily. 

 

  "아가, 좀 다르게 들리니?" 엄마가 말했다.

  "엄마 크게 외치지 않아도 돼요." 나는 행복하게 끄덕였다.

 

 

Now that I Iook back, I don't know what I was so stressed about it all this time.
Funny how sometimes you warry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.

 

  지금 돌이켜보면, 내가 왜 그렇게 이것에 대한 모든 것에 스트레스받았는지 모르겠다.

  재미있게도, 네가 무언가에 대해 많이 걱정했던 것들이 별일 아닐 수도 있다.   

 

 

 

Via's Secret

 

She and Via got into a huge fight. I could
hear them yelling at each other in Via's room. My bionic Lobot ears could hear Mom
saying: "But what is with you lately, Via? You're moody and taciturn and secretive...."

 

  엄마와 비아가 크게 싸웠다. 그녀의 방에서 소리쳐서 나는 들을 수 있었다.

  나의 생체공학적인 로봇 귀로 들었을 때 엄마는 이렇게 이야기했다.

  " 그런데 왜 요즘 왜 그래 비아? 너 침울해 보이고, 말도 없고, 숨기는 게 많아...."

 

My Cave

 

Finally, the door opened. It was Via. She didn't even bother coming over to my bed,
and she didn't come in softly like I thought she would. She came in quickly. 

 

  결국 나는 문을 열었다. 비아였다. 그녀는 내 침대에 올 생각은 아닌 것 같고,

  들어올 때도 내 생각보다 부드럽게 들어오지도 않았다. 그녀는 재빨리 들어왔다.
